Skin checks are performed by qualified skin doctors, who are looking for any suspicious lesion that might be, or might turn into, skin cancer. The doctors at Logan Skin Clinic will examine your skin very closely and discuss your history of sun exposure. Skin checks are one of the most important tools in preventing skin cancers. The earlier a skin cancer is found, the more successful treatment will be.

 

No, you do not need a referral to visit Logan Skin Clinic. However, we are happy to take referrals and we will always work closely with your regular GP to ensure you get the best treatment possible.

 

Skin checks can take between 15 and 30 minutes. In that time, your doctor will also discuss your general health and your skin history. They will examine your skin using a dermatoscope, which is a sort of magnifying glass with a torch attached. Your doctor may ask you to remove parts of your clothing, and may take photos of any suspicious lesions for future monitoring.
Sometimes, your doctor will notice a lesion that displays signs of skin cancer. In this case, your doctor will inform you immediately and discuss with you the next steps of investigation. Usually, this involves taking a small sample of the lesion (a skin biopsy) and have it sent away for pathology testing and diagnosis. When your results return, your doctor will contact you.
If you are diagnosed with a skin cancer, the lesion must either be completely removed or the cancer cells destroyed. Surgical excision of skin cancer is highly effective, and most skin cancers are cured when they are removed. These procedures are usually classified as minor surgery, and can be done in-clinic so there is no need to go to a hospital. Other non-surgical treatments such as cryotherapy, topical creams, or light therapy can also be used to remove skin cancers.

Depending on your level of risk, your doctor will recommend regular follow up appointments. The timeframe of these can vary from every few months to every few years. We can easily set up automatic reminders for you so you never miss a check up.

The cost for a skin check will vary on the length and whether any special treatments are applied. Typically, a standard consultation will cost $97.00. Longer consults will cost $144.00. If you have a Medicare, Pension, or relevant Veterans Affair card you may be eligible for a partial or full (bulk-billed) rebate. All fees can be discussed at the time of booking, or when you arrive at the clinic. All Appointments for skin conditions (dermatitis, psoriasis, rashes, acne) incur fees, regardless of Pension card/HCC or DVA.
Yes, We can consult you for your skin conditions. We do not have any Dermatologists in the clinic, although we have several of our Doctors who have completed further training in skin conditions and have a Narrowband machine on site that we work with a visiting Dermatologist. Because our Doctors are NOT DERMATOLOGISTS, they cannot prescribe Biologics or Accutane. Please call the clinic to discuss your skin needs with one of our friendly reception staff.
