Photodynamic Treatment
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a revolutionary way to improve the appearance of mild to severe sun damaged skin on all areas of the body. PDT can be used as a non-surgical treatment for superficial skin cancers, or as a cosmetic treatment to improve the overall health, look, and feel of your skin.
By using non-invasive LED light technology, doctors can prescribe PDT as a treatment option for a range of skin conditions. This treatment is quick, relatively painless and affordable, with minimal side effects and downtime.
How Does PDT Work?
A photo active substance called ALA (which is made naturally by the body) is applied to the affected area – this substance is then absorbed by the abnormal or damaged cells. Once absorbed, a light source is focused on the treatment area for a period of time. When exposed to this light, the abnormal skin cells are destroyed, revealing new, fresh, healthy skin cells. Complete PDT is usually applied over a few sessions, separated by a short recovery period.
