Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is a basic procedure that uses extreme cold (typically from liquid nitrogen) to remove pre-cancerous sunspots or small non-melanoma skin cancers. The liquid nitrogen can be applied either with a cotton applicator or aerosol spray. Application can be uncomfortable but will only last a few moments.
What is Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is one of the most common treatments for pre-cancerous lesions, such as actinic keratosis. Pre-cancerous lesions are more likely to develop into more serious skin cancers, and so your doctor might recommend early treatment. Cryotherapy is occasionally used to treat basal cell carcinoma (BCC) or squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) that only affects the top layer of skin.
